Hurricane struggles in scrimmage against Parkersburg South.

OK Hurricane fans dont be hitting the panic button just yet, remember it was only a scrimmage. For coaches scrimmage provide things that the team needs to work on, for Coach Taylor and his staff they have a long list of such things.

Nothing seemed to go the Redskins way this morning. There were dropped passes, sacks, back to back pick 6 interceptions, missed tackles, and even a missed field goal by All State kicker Tim McCutchen.

Along with the 3 defensive scores, South found the end zone on 3 other occasions, while Hurricane dented the end zone just once on a Isiah Williams 1 yard run.

Parkersburg South scored twice against the Redskins defense in the first phase of the scrimmage. DC Pratt commented on his twitter account "Three guys in the first rotation were out, and guys were playing out of position but we got tons of reps for young guys. Disappointed overall and we have a lot to learn from."

One of the those young guys that stood out was Freshman Linebacker Brogan Brown who registered 6 tackles and a QB pressure that resulted in an interception by fellow Freshman J.T. James. Cameron Kimble (team leading 9 tackles) also had an interception for Hurricane.

Perhaps the most impressive defensive effort was that of Kryzstof Kudlak who had 8 tackles including 2 sacks, while Rintaro Takeshima registered 8 tackles.

Offensively Hurricane could just not seem to find a grove. Christian Hill gained only 6 yards on his first 3 attempts and QB Nathan Roy was under pressure from the start, and under threw a potential TD, was sacked twice, and when provided a nice pocket, he was on the money with a certain touchdown that was dropped.

Austin Womack entered the game and escaped pressure and found RJ Engel for a nifty 30 yard gain. However Womack's next 2 attempts were each returned for South touchdowns, one on a route jumped by the corner, another off a tip ball.

Hurricane's running game started to gel as the scrimmage wore on as Hill found his groove and gained 64 yards on his next 7 carries. Isiah Williams working with the 2nd unit, finished with 59 yards and a long scamper of 23 yards.

NOTES: Blake Ross, Haidyn Cook, Zack Moore, and Chase Lauerman also registered sacks.

Freshman, Chase Hager had a 65 touchdown reception from fellow freshman Ismael Borrero nullified by an illegal block. Hager also had a 30 yard run, the Skins longest run of the day.

Abel Cunningham saw his first action on defense at Corner.

Seniors Riley Meadows had a tackle, and Gavin Bell a reception on their first gridiron action.

The Redskins scrimmage again next Saturday at UC stadium in Charleston against Riverside.
