3 Redskins to play in WCHS/Fox 11 North-South Football Classic on June 9.
Cole Runion, Curon Cordon, and Steven Shine will represent Hurricane in this year's WCHS/Fox 11 North-South Football Classic.
The 2018 game will be played on Saturday June 9 at South Charleston High School. This venue will be familiar to Cordon, who played for South Charleston prior to transferring to Hurricane for his senior season.
This year's contest features 2 significant changes to the date and the site. The date is a week earlier to avoid coaching conflicts with the three-week June practice window for WVSSAC schools. The traditional location, University of Charleston Stadium/Laidley Field was not available on June 9.
“South Charleston wanted the North-South Football Classic and will make it a great event,” said Ralph Mullett, the game's director. “We are excited to work with South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullins and South Charleston High School.”
Runion was the mainstay on the Redskins offensive line the last three seasons anchoring the line from his center position. Cole will be attending Glenville State College. Coach Jeremy Taylor was quoted in Teays Valley Living recently stating "Cole is as athletic a center as I have ever had."
Steven Shine starred as a Defensive End and led Hurricane with 6 sacks in 2017 among his 88 tackles. He will be continuing his football career at Arizona Western. Hurricane Defensive Coordinator Jason Pratt called Shine "a great young man and a team player."
Curon Cordon had over 1000 all-purpose yards for the Redskins in 2017. He lead the team with 42 receptions and scored 8 touchdowns. He will be attending Palmetto Prep in South Carolina.
Congrats to Cole, Steven, and Curon and let's support these 3 with a great Redskin and Crazy Canes representation at South Charleston on June 9th.
